A Simple Gift of Giving…

We all live somewhere…a house, apartment, condo…etc…and we all have closets. Mine are chock full of towels, sheets, fabric swatches, placemats, maybe even the lost socks I never found!  I don’t know about you but I am always working toward the day I might have organized and clutter free closets, like they show on HGTV  but for now they are a work in progress. With sales and such throughout the year, I am always buying something from quilts to sheets. So every year at least once or twice, I clean and clear the closets and cabinets to gather items for my local shelters and rescue groups. It is amazing to see all the goodies I can clear from my life  and know that it will help a homeless pet in a shelter feel safe and warm with an old blanket that I wasn’t even using anymore.

It means a lot to a scared, homeless pet coming into a  shelter/rescue for the first time to have something they can sit on or snuggle in. Some of the pets are owner surrenders and they know what it was like to have a bed and a warm spot to sleep. Imagine finding yourself in a strange place with nothing familiar or comforting about it?  An old blanket or towel will give that pet something to snuggle and lay on since a lot of shelters don’t have many resources to purchase kennel bedding. Some facilities are just concrete floors that the animals have to sit and sleep on.

So today, make it a goal before the weekend is out to hit your closet, cabinets and attics and clear out the clutter for pets in need and the groups that work so tirelessly to help them. Remember many of the rural community shelters don’t even have closed in areas for the dogs to live in while they wait to be rescued or adopted. So a blanket or two would be appreciated and  great to give. If you don’t have  time to clear a closet why not donate some money  or a gift card to your local rescue/shelter groups. Also remember the dogs and cats love toys and items to play with while they wait to be adopted or rescued.  Clear out the toy chest or dog and cat toys that aren’t used anymore too. Shelters and rescues all have needs and some of them make lists that you can access thru their websites. Let’s help the fuzzy homeless kids stay warm, be comfortable and have a little fun too as they wait for their happy furever afters. It’s a simple gift to give…Now go make a difference!
